Today’s kitchens are filled with all kinds of gastronomical gadgets, from coffee bean grinders to indoor rotisseries, yet design trends are leaning toward minimalism. That means you can show off your white marble countertops, commercial range and custom backsplash, but only if you put away the blender, toaster, chop-pow, phone charger, and well… you get the idea.
To get an idea of what finished rooms cost to complete, we asked top designer-owners of Decorating Den Interiors franchises in different cities to show us a single room they designed. They shared before and after photos, furnishing costs, and each space’s challenges and advantages. You’ll hear where they splurged and when they cut back, as well as additional tips to guide you through the process of completing a room.
As with so many “is it possible” type questions, the answer of whether you can have a tornado-proof house is a resounding “well, yes, but.” In this case, that sentence goes: “Well, yes, but it would be prohibitively expensive and ugly, and nobody really recommends you even bother.”
A low bed in a small-ish room gives the illusion of a larger, airier space. All you need is a box spring (which you can find at walmart), a comfy mattress (Ikea has some decent, comfortable ones for cheap) and if you’re into extra cloud-like comfort you can add a memory foam.
Clean the Clutter
It is imperative to remove all clutter from the home before showing it to potential buyers because buyers need to be able to picture themselves in the space. This might include removing some furniture to make rooms look bigger, and putting away family photographs and personal items. You may even want to hire a stager to help you make better use of the space.
