Interested In Learning More About Ranch House Plans?
Ranch house plans feature an asymmetrical footprint often one story or split level, characterized by lack of decoration; “less is more.”
Architectural Features of Ranch House Plans
- Sprawling One-Story Elevation, featuring an open floor plan
- Captivating Wide Picture Windows
- Double-hung windows with shutters; often metal
- Low-Pitched Roof, often with eaves, having a moderate-to-wide overhang; hipped, cross-gabled, or side-gabled roof; occasionally exposed rafters
Designed by Cliff May, the first western-inspired Ranch style house plans were built in 1932 and soon became the dominant American home style from California to New Jersey in the 1950s and 1960s. Down to earth details include oak floors, wood or brick exterior, and spare decoration except for shutters and porch roof supports highlight the “less is more,” design mentality.

This is an excellent house and floor plan for Florida, where I live. The fact that has one floor is execellent for people like me who are odler and suffer from arthritis. I love the wide picture windows. In Florida, where the sun shines almost every day it is nice to have natural lighting. Of course, the fact that the windows are well sealed keeps out the hear and in the air conditioning. And the metals are great for storm season. All in all this is a lovely home. I hope to see these in Florida/
