Two local companies specializing in house plans were honored recently at the International Home Builders Show in Orlando, Fla.

House Plan Gallery of Hattiesburg and DesignHouse Inc. of Wiggins were honored when housing industry powerhouse Hanley Wood announced its 2008 home plan awards.

House Plan Gallery took first place in the Most Marketable Designer - Builder Sales category. DesignHouse was named runner-up.

The award recognizes the design firm that sold the most house plans to builders relative to the size of its overall plan collection size, said Stephen Mathis, vice president of House Plan Gallery.

Mathis said this is the second year in a row his company has received this award.

“It is a wonderful recognition, from a recognized industry thought leader,” he said. “It also provides our collection with an additional level of credibility, and additional exposure opportunities.”

Debra Purvis, president of DesignHouse, said Hanley Wood - a business-to-business media and information company - is responsible for putting out many of the books of house designs typically found in Lowe’s, Home Depot, Wal-Mart and on the racks of other stores.

“(This award) gives us encouragement to do better,” Purvis said, “to design homes that will appeal to our clients and publishers.”
