For most people, garages are an eyesore that most people would rather forget because over the years it has become a dumping ground for anything and everything. In most homes there isn’t even enough room to get a vehicle parked. Does this sound familiar? Unused lawn equipment, extra items with no real place? This was found to be true and an article was written recently showing research that Americans needs to better organize their homes, especially their garages.
From the article:
The Wall Street Journal recently reported from a study out of The Center on Everyday Lives of Families at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Scientists followed the home lives of 32 middle-class, dual income families in Los Angeles over a period of four years. And one of the most surprising finds? That “75% of garages in the study had no room to store a car.” Instead, the garages were filled with 300 to 650 boxes, storage bins and other storage items.
Co-author Anthony Graesch, an assistant professor of anthropology at Connecticut College told UCLA Newsroom:
“I don’t think Americans intend to collect so much, but we’re really bad at ridding our homes of old possessions before buying new stuff.”
